On December 2, 2016, Shanghai International College of Design and Innovation, Tongji University, the  preparatory meeting was held in Tongji University College of Design & Innovation.

The meeting focused on the issue that in the era of knowledge and global network, what kind of Design & Innovation College is needed to better serve the development of Shanghai Science and Technology Innovation Center. How to promote the comprehensive education reform of the college through the mechanism design of the Council? How to link together the government, industry, academia, research and development institutions, media, finance and other relevant parties with the Council as the media? These questions were discussed at the meeting.

ZHOU Ping, the Executive Dean of this new institute expressed his view that, “Most Universities and researches in the world are not fulfilling the role of leading the industry and the time.”

LV Peiming, the Vice president of Tongji University said that the existing framework must be put aside to design the new Institute in accordance with international practice and future trends. Shanghai International College of Design and Innovation, Tongji University is expected to explore a new path to the reform of the University which can be followed.

Dean Lou Yongqi said, “The aim is not only to develop world-class Design discipline, but also, In the era of change, to become a global leader in the practice of design driving innovation.
